What are Standard Wheelchairs

Standard wheelchairs are the most basic of the self-propelled wheelchair category. These basic wheelchairs are so designed for the usage of short time period, and while seating systems can be added, this category isn't commonly chosen for persons who will be using a wheelchair frequently. The basic wheelchair has the advantages of being both strong and affordable. The downsides are that they are hefty, come in a limited number of sizes, have few alternatives, and lack flexibility for comfort or ease of propulsion.

Standard Wheelchairs

Because of their weight, these wheelchairs are difficult to manoeuvre on anything other than level, firm, and smooth terrain. While they can be propelled on their own, they are better suited to situations in which a caretaker or assistance is available to assist when needed.

Seat Dimensions of standard wheelchair

Standard wheelchairs are commonly available in these three standard sizes like 16", 18", or 20". In general a standar wheel chair size of 16 inches is ideal for almost everyone except the tiniest and tallest adults.

Frames, Capacity, and Weight

The majority of ordinary wheelchairs feature steel folding frames and weigh between 30 and 50 pounds. When comparing wheelchair models, it's crucial to pay attention to the components. Many wheelchair manufacturers will list weights that exclude footrests, arms, and other accessories. Weight capabilities range from 250 to 300 pounds.

Tires, Casters, and Wheels

Two 8" casters on the front and two 24" wheels on the back with solid tyres are the most typical wheel layout for basic wheelchairs. Different sizes may be available on some models, but there will almost certainly be a significant price difference.

Brakes in standard wheelchairs

Brakes are located towards the front of the side frame on all regular wheelchairs and press on the tyres to keep the wheelchair from rolling. The brakes on a wheelchair are not meant to act like those on a vehicle or a bicycle; they are only used to "park" the wheelchair, not to slow it down while it is travelling.

Armrests to ease arms

Standard wheelchair arms can be full or desk length, and they may or may not be removable, but this is not a common feature. There will very probably be an upcharge for any arm style other than the normal arm in circumstances where you have an arm style choice.

Footrests in wheelchairs

Standard wheelchairs always feature a footrest as part of the base price, but most also provide elevating legrests as an extra. On a normal wheelchair, selecting elevating legrests incurs an additional cost, which is minor on some models but large on others. If you need elevating legrests, it's a good idea to look around and compare several kinds.
